Valencia is a compact, flat and easy city to get around. That makes daily travel to an internship, a language school or an activity simple, once students know the options. Here is a practical overview.
From the airport to the city
Valencia airport is connected to the city by metro (Metrovalencia). The journey to the centre takes around 20 to 25 minutes. For groups, a private transfer is often more convenient, especially with luggage and late arrivals. Koyot Agency arranges airport or train station transfers on arrival and departure.
Metro and tram
Metrovalencia combines underground lines and tram lines, linking the centre with the beach, the university area and surrounding towns. Stations are clearly signposted with a red “M” logo.
City buses
The EMT bus network covers almost every neighbourhood and is useful for routes the metro does not reach. Students can pay with a rechargeable transport card; it is worth asking at a metro station or kiosk which card and fare suits the length of the stay, as options and prices change over time.
Cycling
With its many bike lanes and the Turia Gardens, a green park that crosses the city for around nine kilometres, Valencia is ideal for cycling. Valenbisi, the public bike-sharing system, has stations all over the city, and there are plenty of rental shops for short stays. Always use the bike lanes and lock the bike properly.
Walking
The historic centre is best explored on foot. Many internships, shops and the language school can be reached with a combination of walking and one metro or bus line.
Safety tips
- Save the address of your accommodation and internship in your phone.
- Keep phones and wallets out of sight on busy lines and in crowded places.
- Check the last metro or bus times if you go out in the evening.
- Save the emergency number 112 and the number of your local coordinator.
