A well-packed suitcase makes the first days abroad a lot easier. This checklist helps students prepare for an internship or school trip to Valencia, so they arrive relaxed and ready to start.

Documents

  • A valid ID card or passport.
  • For EU students: the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC).
  • The insurance details arranged by your school or Erasmus+ project.
  • A copy of your learning or training agreement and your host company”s address.
  • Emergency contact numbers, saved on your phone and written on paper.

Clothes for the Valencian climate

Valencia is sunny most of the year. Summers are hot, often above 30 °C, and winters are mild during the day. Evenings in winter can feel chilly, and many homes have little heating, so bring layers.

  • Light, breathable clothes for warm days.
  • A warm sweater or jacket for winter evenings.
  • Sunglasses, a cap and sunscreen, also in spring and autumn.
  • Comfortable shoes: you will walk a lot.

For your internship

  • Work clothes that fit your sector, such as smart clothes for an office or safety shoes for a workshop.
  • Check with the host company whether they provide a uniform.
  • A small notebook for new tasks and Spanish words.

Handy extras

  • A bank card that works abroad. Spain uses the euro, and contactless payment is common.
  • Your phone charger. Spain uses the same plugs as most of continental Europe; students from the UK or Ireland need an adapter.
  • Any medication you need, with a copy of the prescription.
  • A reusable water bottle.

Tip: do not overpack. Host families and residences usually have a washing machine, and Valencia has plenty of shops for anything you forget.
